Each year, the sheriff's office participates in “No Shave November,” when Sheriff Mike Evans waives the agency's standard facial hair grooming policies to support a good cause.

Deputies are dropping their razors and donating a $50 “fine” for the opportunity to grow a beard in support of 12-year-old McKenna Cox and her family after she was critically injured when she was struck by a vehicle in September in the Oakland Hall community.

Evans stressed that every dollar raised will be contributed to the girl's recovery as she continues to rehab at the Kennedy Krieger Institute and Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.

According to the sheriff’s office, while typically associated with cancer charities, “‘No Shave November’ challenges participants to forgo shaving and to donate money that would typically be spent on shaving and grooming to this cause.”

“Help us give back to a family who graciously served their community as both of McKenna’s parents have been educators in the Calvert County Public School system for many, many years,” officials said. “We cordially invite the public to join in: Grow. Donate. Share. Support.”

Last year, the sheriff’s office raised more than $3,000 for Toys For Tots in November.

Anyone interested in participating or donating to the cause can do so by contacting Capt. R. Jones at the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office by emailing Roscoe.Jones@calvertcountymd.com.

Donations are also being accepted through Venmo (Calvert County FOP/ @payfop109), cash, and/or checks. Checks may be made payable to FOP Lodge 109. If payment is via check or Venmo, donors have been instructed to put “No Shave November” in the memo/comment line.
